Laura Dennehy

Settle into drafting 10’s of documents, this part of the day I find the most relaxing and satisfying.

6.30 AM

I fly out of bed, knowing I’m already late for the day – run outside (usually still in my pjs) throw on my red band gumboots fire up the four-wheeler, shift the cows, throw some hay at the horses, coax my cocker spaniel into her kennel with some breakfast. Race inside, have a 30-second shower (just long enough to accidentally stain my scalp with purple shampoo), throw on some yo pro clothes and run out the door in a pair of heels which tend to half-trip me up as I hit the grass running.

7.45 AM

Skid down the driveway in my truck, praying no animals have found a way to get out and onto the lawn in the last 30 minutes (believe me it does happen from time to time). Begin the 45-minute hike into the office, through the never-ending road works that are the township of Rangiora, crawl down the traffic jam that is Cranford Street where I manage to use the red lights to slap on some foundation and pull a brush through my hair.

8.30 AM

Find myself a 120-minute car park on Bealey Ave. The tickets are only $12, and the wardens only hit me with one once every 6 months so its not even worth the bother trying to find another! Trot across Bealey Ave with all my other fellow latecomers, catch the elevator to the third floor and slide into the bullpen (suits reference).

9.00 AM

Right, time to do some billables. I check my emails to see what chaos is in store for the day/week ahead.

10.00 AM

SNACK TIME – stroll down to the hub with my fellow blondes to sip on chai lattes and munch on peckish thins.

10.15 AM

Back to it, time to get some serious admin done (headphones are a must).

1.00 PM

Lunch time, take a trip down to Merivale Mall with the gals for a pedicure and sushi ball (or on Tuesday, we tennis)

2.00 PM

The sudden realisation that the day has slipped away, and it dawned on me how much work I have on my plate. Settle into drafting 10’s of documents, this part of the day I find the most relaxing and satisfying. Although I do need one of those labels on my back that says don’t talk to me or I will get distracted.

A company constitution, client meeting, directors’ resolution, and relationship property settlement later and its….

5.00 PM

Time to…. head into the boss’ office to answer that quick question.

6.00 PM

Dash down the stairs, across B Ave to check whether they pinged me with that $12 ticket, zoom back to the farm just in time to saddle up a pony and enjoy a sunset ride down the riverbed before cuddling up on the couch with my cocker spaniel and watching the latest episode of…. nothing – I fall asleep with the remote in my hand whilst still deciding what to watch.
