Pros & Cons

  • Lane Neave is a middle size firm which I believe has the most benefits - they have the resources and capabilities to compete with the large firms and attract good clients, but they are small enough so that you feel as though you know everyone.
  • The people! Everyone is so lovely and genuinely interested in me and what I have to bring to the company.
  • The people. They have no judgement when I don't understand things and truly care about ensuring I have a positive experience
  • Variety in work, decent amount of autonomy coupled with appropriate supervision, constructive feedback and guidance provided by seniors, great teamwork
  • The work flow can be quite erratic. At times I am very busy and other times I don't have much to do
  • Sometimes long hours, initial pay somewhat average.
  • Hours of work can be long or burdensome due to client demand, and Partners can have unrealistic expectations, depending on the team you are placed in

What I really appreciate about the firm is the ability to be able to grow within it. I have seen how quickly solicitors have been able to get their position from my role and it makes me excited to be able to be able to have the same opportunities.

Hard to tell right now. They have done a revamp of their CSR with a lot of effort which will be exciting to watch grow. They are taking ideas and feedback from all staff which is also great.

The culture at Lane Neave sets it apart. Teams work together for the mutual good and there is no sense of competition - just collaboration. We have many social functions which help to build relationships across the firm.

I was so impressed by the number of women at the pre-interview function and who are summer clerks. I know Lane Neave recently won an award for being the Women in Business Law firm of the year (or something like that) and it really shows

Most of my work is set at the right level. I have an engaged partner who gives me clear direction and feedback. Our team also has a great assistant to help with the administrative tasks. I usually find myself at the right balance of being confident in my abilities while being challenged.

I am very satisfied with my managers. What I have appreciated most is the trust they have given me in delegating work to me. I also really appreciate the approachability of my managers and how I can go to them with any questions I have.

I like the open plan arrangement of the office which encourages the culture of the teams and the office is always tidy and clean. The dress code is corporate/formal but I enjoy that we have casual Fridays where we can dress more comfortably.

The process was very straight forward and everyone I met along the way made me feel at ease, despite the inevitable nerves that comes with interviews.

We recently had a 7% pay increase which was obviously well received. I am very happy with my current pay for the level I am at. I believe the pay reviews are regular and decent.

We have team CPD sessions which are presented by a different person in the team in each time. These are really interesting and beneficial. We are also encouraged to go to external CPD seminars which is nice.

My work hours are between 8:15am to 5pm. I like to come in a bit earlier to get myself ready for my day. But my team have allowed me to be flexible with my hours and adapt to when the team comes in which I really appreciate.
