Pros & Cons

  • The team - they're always friendly and willing to help
  • The colleagues I work with are great people, willing to teach and hard working. They are also supportive out of work and the work culture is great. The applications and software we work with are probably another good thing I enjoy about working here, it's different from everything I have been taught so far, so it means there is a lot in the IT world that I don't know!
  • Networking and opportunities to learn in various tech spaces
  • Networking and industry breakthrough. Great opportunities
  • The support and training you get from FDM
  • Job security
  • Not much I can think of at the moment, but the workload can get pretty bad since I was the only QA in our team for a while. But at the same time, I enjoy learning new things and don't mind putting in my own hours to upskill. At times I can say that is bad since the work-life balance is not there, but also it's good.
  • Extended hours and occasional burnout
  • Training sometimes is not specific to what you get into
  • I'd say salary, especially as inflation is pretty high.

On client site the promotion and career progression opportunities are good. It does not take years of experience to have a promotion opportunity but the quality of your work and what you can bring to the team

Haven't worked around it other than compliance training for awareness on behavior's and responsibilities that revolve around CSR.

Culture
The culture in the office is great, everyone will try to chat with one another to get to know each other, given we are hybrid working. The managers are always looking out for you with monthly catchups and ensuring you are enjoying what you are doing in the team, and your role. The teamwork is great as the tech model we use on client site is what makes it good, it helps bring everyone together for their opinions on story estimation etc. There are usual events out of work which gets everyone together after hours, and I play basketball out of work with a number of work colleagues.

My team specifically has a mix of both female and males for each of the role category (i.e. BA, Devs, Testers) with all different ethnic backgrounds.

Satisfaction
My role is a Java Developer but sometimes work on tasks that involve SQL and Unix. On a day- to-day I pick up a technology-related task (e.g. Dev or Dev Analysis) and complete those tasks. I also help testers when there is a technology related error in their tests to diagnose and resolve the issues.

Management
My current and previous manager were both great, they were different but both are great mentors. They are very accessible for any question or concerns you may have. They provide IDP (Individual development plan) every year for topics/fields you could improve in or learn. They touch base with you often to ensure you are enjoying what you are doing and if of any concerns. Praises and recognition are there too, my manager will know of any good work I do and give recognition

The office building is new and has everything needed to do work efficiently with a lot of extra private rooms to use when available for things such as meetings. There is no explicit dress code but it's standard to see everyone in business attire.

Recruitment
FDM's hiring process was great, it was all round assessing not only your technical skills but also your soft skills. The recruiters are very welcoming and provide great feedback if there is any gap. For my client interview, it was also good, mine assessed me in what has FDM provided during their training and what can I bring into the team for my role

Training

Training
The main takeaway from my training was communicating in a formal setting. Not only do they provide a fundamental technical course, they also have a presentation skills class. The technical course for me was minor as I already had the tech background.
